"The Penny" and "Trench 31", won the 2025's Manteco Sustainability Award arranged with UDIT (Universidad de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología)
The Penny: A Fusion of Fashion and Function by Laura del Río, Lidia Pérez and Blanca de Bonrostro
The Penny is a transformative fashion piece inspired by the free-spirited creativity of the 1960s. Designed as both a stylish coat and a functional chair, it challenges conventional fashion by merging versatility with sustainability. Crafted from Manteco’s MWool textiles, organic cotton, and silk organza, it prioritizes eco-friendly materials and minimal waste. The modular design allows for easy disassembly and reconfiguration, extending its lifecycle. Handmade details, zero-waste patterning, and biodegradable components reinforce its commitment to circular fashion.
Trench 31: A Tribute to Timeless Style with a Modern Twist by TOMÁS ESCRIBANO and HUGO VEGA
The TRENCH 31 project was born with the goal of reinventing the classic trench coat through innovative and sustainable design. Inspired by the aesthetics of American comics, particularly Dick Tracy, the project celebrates the 40th anniversary of the comic’s redesign in 1984. The trench coat was designed to be versatile and transformable, offering multiple ways to wear it depending on needs and weather conditions. Sustainability is a key element: biodegradable materials, wooden buttons, and recycled fabrics were used, minimizing waste. The production process followed traditional tailoring methods, with special attention to craftsmanship and quality. The final result is a timeless garment, durable and perfectly aligned with the philosophy of fashion circularity.
