2022 was a significant, rambling and unpredictable year for Manteco® - full of successes, challenges, scientific studies and circular innovations

We faced skyrocketing energy tariffs and daily uncertainty, but thanks to our willpower and our loyal MSystem partner companies, we managed to overcome this period. We continued our ESG path, strongly focusing on emissions’ calculation and accounting, life cycle assessments and the improvement of our circular economy practices and projects.

We grew a lot and had a great overall performance

  • We worked with a total of 961 customers, located in 45 different countries

  • We produced  7,457,039 meters of fabric, with an increase of 9% compared to 2021

  • We had a turnover of 96,813,758 Euros, with an increase of 24.8% compared to 2021

We increased even more the use of certified and recycled materials

  • 54% of the raw materials and yarns we used were certified, with an increase of 10,8% compared to 2021

  • 37,1% of the raw materials and yarns we used were recycled, with an increase of 5,9% compared to 2021

  • 92% of the MWool® we used was (GRS) Global Recycled Standard certified

  • 8.2% of the virgin wool we used was (RWS) Responsible Wool Standard certified

We saved large amounts of materials and resources, and avoided tons of CO2 emissions

  • Thanks to MWool®, our next-gen recycled wool, we saved 119.004 tons of CO2-eq, 21.86 hm3 of water and 191.1 TJ of energy

  • Thanks to Recype®, our dyes-free color creation process for MWool® fabrics, we saved 1,550 tons of CO2 eq, 0.26 hm3 of water and 22.8 TJ of energy

  • Thanks to ReviWool®, our low-impact virgin wool, we saved 70.247 tons of CO2-eq, 12.68 hm3 of water and 95.12 TJ of energy

  • Thanks to the Zero-Waste project, we recovered 215,372 kg of industrial wool waste and, following a careful sorting work, 71.5% of this reused in the production cycle

  • Thanks to Project43, we recovered 53,600 kg of garment-making offcuts

We championed science-based assessments, academic publications and certifications

  • We completed 2 LCAs (Life Cycle Assessments), with a strong focus on assessing the impact of our branded raw materials

  • Thanks to a collaboration with the prestigious Politecnico di Torino, MWool® became the first-ever recycled wool with a Life Cycle Assessment that was peer-reviewd and published as a scientific article (on MDPI Resources)

  • MWool® also obtained the EPD® Environmental Product Declaration certification (on the production of 1kg of 100% MWool® yarn)

  • MWool® was put among the Preferred Fibers of the Material Sustainability Index by Higg Index (now known as Worldly)

  • Our study on MWool®’s marine biodegradability was peer-reviewed and published as a scientific article (on MDPI Oceans)

  • Thanks to another collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino, we carried out an unprecedented Life Cycle Assessment on our low-impact virgin wool, called ReviWool®
